Welcome to BMR!

 Welcome to BMR!

Hi all and welcome to the first post on the new hosting for British Military Ramblings. As some of you may know I attempted to begin writing my blog last week but due to some what we shall call 'technical difficulties' (I accidentally removed my account off the PC and forgot my password) that blog is now inaccessible to me and since I was not entirely happy with my first post (about the MRSS) I decided that I would take the opportunity to turn a new page and start again. Every cloud has a silver lining and all that.

So to start I think I need to properly introduce myself, I'm BMR (that's obviously not my actual name but PERSEC) and I'm interested in the past, present and future of Her Majesties Armed Forces. I intend to write this blog about the theory, strategy, procurement, tactics, doctrine and politics of the forces; both present and future. My interest in defence really began at a young age when I sat at my Grandfathers feet and listened to his stories of national service and his older brother's courageous exploits at the Battle of Arnhem as part of the 1st Airborne Division. Since then my interest has only gotten stronger and I've been lurking and reading several defence blogs including Think DefenceUK Armed Forces CommentaryThin Pinstriped Line and the venerable Navy Lookout.

Inspired by these incredible bloggers I decided to start my own blog so that I can share my own opinions. Hopefully you will enjoy reading them and hopefully share your own down in the comments below where, fingers crossed, we can have some vaguely sensible discussions (and fantasy fleets, obviously!) about anything and everything.

I'm currently working on a piece on the future of the Royal Navies Mine Countermeasures capability which is shaping up rather nicely and further down the pipeline I have posts on Boxer, Ajax, the Reserve Forces, National Resiliance, Forward Basing and Our Allies strengths and weaknesses as well as longer series' about Britain's Amphibious capability and then I think I'm going to have a crack at trying to build my own force structure for the Army of the Future.

I look forward to having some serious and constructive debate into the future and hope we can all learn something, educate others and build some relationships. That's all I have to say for now so I'll see you all in the next post which will hopefully be soon.

  1. Looking forward to it. One area I struggle.to.find anything accessible about is how Britain would fight a coalition campaign against Russia. Everything is warped by looking at our defence in splendid isolation.
